Don’t read too much into the latest Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. rumor.

Omar Al Raisi, editor in chief of The Sports Journal, one of the largest digital news publications in the Middle East and North Africa region, sent social media into a frenzy Sunday when he tweeted about a potential rematch between McGregor and Mayweather under modified mixed martial arts rules.

Raisi claimed McGregor and Mayweather were eyeing a fight inside the octagon with 4-ounce gloves, no shoes and five 5-minute rounds in the 155-pound division. The rumored fight wouldn’t involve kicks, takedowns, elbows or knees, but certain things, like the clinch, would be allowed, according to Raisi.

If you’re skeptical, we don’t blame you. Not only do those rules sound crazy. They also would make for an awkward and confusing showdown that’s not even that entertaining. After all, wouldn’t this essentially be another boxing match, just with smaller gloves?

Fortunately, Dana White threw cold water on the outlandish chatter Tuesday when someone tweeted the rumor at the UFC president.

According to World Boxing News, Raisi has clarified since initially tweeting the rumor that no agreement has been reached, telling the SiriusXM Boxing Radio Show the rules he revealed were “things that were discussed.”
