Threats of violence on college campuses are not to be taken lightly, and Michigan authorities are reacting accordingly.
The University of Michigan Police Department is investigating a string of disturbing tweets from former Wolverines linebacker Elysee Mbem-Bosse that appeared to include threats against head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The investigation started after a Reddit user posted screenshots of several profane tweets from Mbem-Bosse’s account Monday night. Mbem-Bosse seemingly was upset he had been suspended last season after leaving the team to attend to a “family crisis.”
“Within hours of my family crisis,” Mbem-Bosse wrote in one since-deleted tweet. “F— YOU. GN. It’s on tomorrow.”
He tagged Harbaugh in another tweet, then made a direct violent threat.
“Michigan is open carry. Let’s not forget. Not your friend,” Mbem-Bosse wrote. “They sent someone to my crib before. I was nice enough to call the cops next time I’m calling the morgue. I’m talking with facts”
The ex-linebacker also tweeted “Dead and alive.” and “Let’s not have a murder case On your hands.”
Mbem-Bosse later deleted his series of tweets and made his Twitter account — which isn’t verified — private.
The Georgia native, who came in with Michigan’s 2016 recruiting class, left the team last November and no longer is part of the football program, Michigan’s athletic department said in a statement Tuesday.
Mbem-Bosse still is enrolled at Michigan, according to athletic director Warde Manuel, who added Harbaugh is “aware” of the threats.
