You probably know Joey Votto is a terrific hitter. (Seriously: Check out his stats.) What you may or may not know is the Cincinnati Reds first baseman also an elite troller — and Philadelphia Phillies fans are his favorite target.
You see, Votto has this thing where he’ll go to great lengths to make sure opposing fans don’t get foul balls. He was at it again in the first inning of Monday’s Reds-Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park.
The five-time All-Star chased the ball all the way to the fence to make sure Phillies fans didn’t wind up with it, like a kid playing keep-away from his little brother.
Later in the game, Votto mocked Phillies fans again, going right up to the railing after catching an Aaron Altherr pop-out in the fourth inning to remind the Philly faithful what they wouldn’t be getting.
Votto is Philly’s troll king.
Alas, the Phillies got the last laugh, squeaking out a 6-5 win — despite Votto’s 2-for-4 effort at the plate.
