The Boston Bruins’ top line has been on an absolute tear so far this postseason, shredding the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first two games of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series.
Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron already have combined for 20 points as the Bruins easily dispatched the opposition in the opening pair of wins.
So has Leafs coach Mike Babcock ever seen insane production like that before?
“No, and if I had, I’d try to block it out of my mind, probably, you know, unless it was from my own team, obviously,” Babcock said Saturday following his team’s 7-3 loss in Game 2.
Can’t blame him.
“They’re dominating us,” Babcock continued. “I actually thought we got off to a pretty good start, and the pucks still went in the net, so give them credit for playing really well. That line has been good on the power play, been good five-on-five, been good at the net scoring.”
Pastrnak alone has been responsible for nine of those points, compiling six points on a hat trick with three assists in Game 2 alone. Meanwhile, Marchand has slashed 1-5-6 and Bergeron 0-5-5.
If the Leafs want any prayer of advancing to the second round, they’re going to need to figure out how to stop the NHL’s best line.
And if not, well, Babcock is going to be blocking this series out of his mind.
