The Boston Red Sox received a bit of a scare early in Saturday’s 10-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.
Boston’s first run of the game didn’t come without consequence. After Mookie Betts walked to lead off the ballgame, he raced home on an Andrew Benintendi double. While Betts scored on the play, he was struck in the back by the throw home and collided with Orioles catcher Chance Sisco.
Betts stayed in the game for a few innings before being replaced in the fourth by Blake Swihart. Luckily for the star outfielder and his team, X-rays came back negative, and the injury officially was listed as a left foot contusion, per the Red Sox.
Although Betts appears to have avoided a serious injury, it comes as no surprise that he might sit out the third leg of the four-game set against Baltimore on Sunday.
Despite the injury bug being unkind to Boston to start the season, the Sox still have managed to get off to a stellar 12-2 start to the campaign.
