NFL Rumors: Giants Focusing On These Two Players With No. 2 Pick

The New York Giants will have a plethora of options when they select second in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Coming off a 3-13 season, the G-Men could elect to draft their future franchise quarterback or trade the pick to a team like the Buffalo Bills in order to accrue more picks and reload the roster for a potential 2018 playoff run.

Or they could just take the guy many believe to be the best player in the draft, if he’s still available that is.

For a while, it appeared that New York wasn’t interested in drafting Penn State running back Saquon Barkley at No. 2 overall, but that might have been a smokescreen.

The New York Post reported Saturday, citing sources close to the team, that the Giants are unlikely to trade the pick or select a QB at No.2, essentially leaving them a choice between Barkley and North Carolina State defensive end Bradley Chubb.

Via Paul Schwartz of The New York Post:

The Giants view Saquon Barkley as a near-perfect prospect. They think he’s a better player than Ezekiel Elliott, who went No. 4 to the Cowboys in 2016. All Elliott has accomplished is average 104.6 yards in his 25 NFL games, along with 22 rushing touchdowns in two seasons. He also has an entire offense built around him. The main difference? Barkley is a far superior pass-catcher. Plus, there are absolutely no character issues or concerns with Barkley.

Schwartz also noted that Chubb wowed during his visit with the Giants and there is no other defensive lineman that has close to his ability in the draft. When new general manager Dave Gettleman was with the Carolina Panthers, he used his first two first-round picks on defensive linemen, and after trading Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccanneers this offseason, New York has a need for a dominant edge rusher.
