The Buffalo Bills need a quarterback for the future and have lots of quality assets to make a trade, so will we see another deal involving a top three pick in the 2018 NFL Draft?
The New York Jets recently traded up to No. 3, presumably to draft a QB, and ESPN’s Todd McShay reports that another AFC East club, the Buffalo Bills, could make a similar move.
“I’m hearing a lot of buzz that a deal could happen between Buffalo and the Giants at No. 2,” McShay wrote Wednesday as part of his latest ESPN.com NFL Mock Draft. “The strong-armed Allen fits the AFC East, and the Bills can be patient with him, as AJ McCarron can start in 2018. Allen has the highest upside of the quarterbacks in this class, but he might need the most polish.”
What would the Bills need to give up for the second overall pick? McShay projected that Buffalo would send two first-round picks (Nos. 12 and 22) and a second-round choice (No. 53) to the Giants for No. 2 overall.
That’s a lot to give up for Buffalo, but the chance to draft a potential franchise quarterback should be fully explored, especially when you consider the fact that the Bills haven’t had an elite QB since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly was under center in the 1990s.
The Giants seem content with Eli Manning remaining as the starting quarterback, and if that’s the plan, they don’t need to use the No. 2 pick on a QB. New York has many other needs, particularly on defense, and acquiring an extra first rounder would allow the G-Men to address multiple roster needs early in the draft.
