Trevor Davis might need a refresher course on timing.

Police arrested the Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport after he made a joke about a bomb at a check-in counter. Davis was taken into custody and charged with making “criminal threats” after making this ill-timed and poorly placed quip.

“Yesterday, Trevor Davis checked in at the Hawaiian Airlines ticket counter and was asked the usual questions about whether he was carrying any aerosol cans, knives, weapons or explosives,” LAX public information officer Rob Pedregon told ESPN’s Rob Demovsky on Monday. “Davis turned to his female companion and asked if she remembered to pack the explosives. He was then taken into custody and booked.”

Davis must answer the charges May 3 in Los Angeles County court.

The Packers told ESPN they’re investigating the incident.

“The Packers are aware of the matter involving Trevor Davis,” a team statement to ESPN said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will refrain from making any further comment as it is an ongoing legal matter.”

Davis was the Packers’ primary punt and kick returner last season. He averaged 12 yards per punt return, ranking third in the NFL.

However, he has caught just eight passes for 94 yards and one touchdown in two NFL seasons.

One would think he’d be able to write better jokes, given the amount of time his limited role in the Packers’ offense presents him.
