Red Sox-Yankees Fight Caught Ex-Boston Infielder Deven Marrero’s Attention

Wednesday was a wild day across Major League Baseball, with the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres trading punches at Coors Field and the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees going to blows at Fenway Park.

The madness caught the attention of Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Deven Marrero, who joked on Twitter about MLB turning into mixed martial arts before our eyes.

Baseball fights always generate buzz, but Wednesday’s brawls must have been weird for Marrero. Not only does he play in the National League West, the same division as the Rockies and Padres. The former first-round pick also spent parts of six seasons in the Red Sox organization before being traded to the D-Backs last month during spring training.

It’d be interesting to know whether Marrero reached out to any of his former Red Sox teammates about Wednesday’s fracas, which started when Joe Kelly plunked Tyler Austin seemingly in retaliation for a questionable slide into second base earlier in the game.
