Whether the San Antonio Spurs eventually put Kawhi Leonard on the trading block remains to be seen.
But if they do, the Boston Celtics certainly have enough pieces to make a deal.
Reported mutual frustration between Leonard and the Spurs has sparked speculation that the two-time All-Star could be moved during the offseason. As a result, fans and media alike have begun forming hypothetical deals for Leonard, with one team seemingly being mentioned more than any other: the Celtics.
Among the most interesting Leonard-to-Boston scenarios recently was crafted by Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale, who noted the Celtics would be just fine without the Spurs star.
Here are the details:
Celtics get: Leonard.
Spurs get:Â forward Marcus Morris, guard Terry Rozier, forward Jayson Tatum, forward Daniel Theis, 2019 top-eight protected first-round pick (from Boston, via Memphis).
So, is that too steep of a price to pay for one of the NBA’s best players?
Perhaps, and Leonard is just one year away from free agency. But such a deal would give Boston a starting lineup of Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown and Al Horford.
If you ask us, that squad could rival — and even surpass — the Golden State Warriors’ star-studded unit.
