If Tiger Woods is going to make his move, now’s the time.
Woods enters Round 3 of the 2018 Masters Tournament at four-over par. And if he wants to catch leader Patrick Reed, who begins the day at nine-under par, then Woods must start stringing together some good holes.
We’ll have hole-by-hole updates on Woods’ performance at Augusta National Golf Club throughout the day.
FIRST HOLE (par 4, 445 yards)
Not a good start for Woods.
After a good — but not great — tee shot, Woods dropped one in the bunker on his second shot. He eventually rebounded for an opening bogey.
On the day:Â one-over through one (plus-five overall, T-47).
SECOND HOLEÂ (par 5, 575 yards)
More of the same on Hole 2.
Woods fired his tee shot into the fairway bunker, then landed his approach shot in the bunker off the green. Three shots later and Woods landed his second bogey in as many holes.
On the day: two-over through two (plus-six overall, T-50).
THIRD HOLE (par 4, 350 yards)
It wasn’t always pretty, but Woods has his first par of the day.
After a rough tee shot that landed in the rough, Woods eventually rebounded with a nice shot out of a bunker and a good putt to save par.
On the day: two-over through three (plus-six overall, T-50).
FOURTH HOLE (par 3, 240 yards)
Woods finally appears to be settling in.
After a great tee shot, Woods two-putted his way to par. Had a great chance at birdie, though.
On the day: two-over through four (plus-six overall, T-49).
FIFTH HOLE (par 4, 455 yards)
Solid shots all around for Woods. Nothing particularly fancy, but he now has saved par on three consecutive holes.
On the day: tw0-over through five (plus-six overall, T-50).
SIXTH HOLE (par 3, 180 yards)
Well, would ya look at that!
Woods’ beautiful tee shot landed about eight feet from the cup, and sunk the putt for his first birdie on the afternoon.
On the day: one-over through six (plus-five overall, T-48).
SEVENTH HOLE (par 4, 450 yards)
Woods rebounded from a wide-right tee shot to save par. Had a chance for a long birdie putt from 50 feet out, but it fell about nine feet short.
On the day: one-over through seven (plus-five overall, T-48).
EIGHTH HOLE (par 5, 570 yards)
Woods didn’t start the hole strong, but he finished with a great pitch and a solid putt to nail his second birdie of the round.
On the day: even through eight (plus-four overall, T-38).
NINTH HOLE (par 4, 460 yards)
Woods like primed to get another birdie after great tee and approach shots. He eventually settled for par, though.
On the day: even through nine (plus-four overall, T-41).
TENTH HOLE (par 4, 495 yards)
A perfect tee shot left Woods within striking distance from another birdie, but he played it safe and saved par. After a rough start to the round, Woods clearly has found a rhythm.
On the day: even through 10 (plus-four overall, T-41).
ELEVENTH HOLE (par 4, 505 yards)
Perfect drive. Good approach. Solid showing on the green.
Woods saves par again.
On the day: even through 11 (plus-four overall, T-41).
TWELFTH HOLE (par 3, 155 yards)
Good start to the hole as Woods finally missed the water. But hit a terrible putt on his second shot and had to settle for par.
On the day: Even through 12 (plus-four overall, T-41).
THIRTEENTH HOLE (par 5, 510 yards)
Up-and-down hole for Woods. Started with a rough tee shot that landed in the woods, then came back with a surprise shot that landed just off the green. After an ugly chip shot that rolled off the end of the green, Woods rebounded to save par.
On the day: even through 13 (plus-four overall, T-39).
FOURTEENTH HOLE (par 4, 440 yards)
Woods almost drained an incredible 73-foot putt, but eventually tapped in for bar. Still not playing consistent golf, though.
On the day: even through 14 (plus-four overall, T-39).
FIFTEENTH HOLE (par 5, 530 yards)
This was Woods’ ugliest hole since early in the round. Bad tee shot, bad approach, bad finish. Bogey.
On the day: One-over through 15 (plus-five overall, T-44).
SIXTEENTH HOLE (par 3, 170 yards)
He’s baaack (for now).
It’s been a very meh day for Woods, but he hit a great tee shot and drained an easy putt for birdie.
On the day: Even through 16 (plus-four overall, T-44).
SEVENTEENTH HOLE (par 4, 440 yards)
Solid, safe showing for Woods on 17. After an iffy tee shot, he rebounds to save par and set up a chance to finish the round under par.
On the day: Even through 17 (plus-four overall, T-41).
EIGHTEENTH HOLE (par 4, 465 yards)
A solid tee shot gave Woods a chance for a birdie on 18, but he went too strong on the approach shot and eventually saved bar. So-so day for Woods, but much better than first two rounds.
Tiger finishes the day at 4-over on the tournament, even for Round 3.
