J.D. Martinez can take the monkey off his back.
Martinez had yet to show off his highly touted power through the Boston Red Sox’s first seven games of the season, but that all changed Saturday afternoon.
The veteran slugger clobbered his first home run in a Red Sox uniform against the Tampa Bay Rays: an absolute no-doubter that cleared the Green Monster and helped Boston collect a 10-3 thrashing of its American League East rival.
But Martinez didn’t exactly receive a hero’s welcome upon his return to the dugout. After circling the bases, the 30-year-old was temporarily greeted with the silent treatment until his teammates finally rejoiced.
