Xander Bogaerts Injury: Red Sox Shortstop Placed On 10-Day Disabled List

Xander Bogaerts’ season has gotten off to a great start, but an injury is going to put a pause on it.

The Boston Red Sox’s shortstop will be headed to the 10-day disabled list, the team announced Monday afternoon. The injury is due to a cracked bone in his ankle that he suffered during the seventh inning of the Red Sox’s 8-7 comeback win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.

Tzu-Wei Lin was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket as a result.

Here’s the full announcement from the Red Sox, which also includes an update on injured starter Drew Pomeranz.

Bogaerts was off to a red-hot start to begin the season. He is hitting .368 with seven doubles, two home runs (including a grand slam) with nine RBI in just nine games.
