NESN Soccer Podcast: World Cup Quarterfinals Previews, Predictions

by Marc DiBenedetto

Jul 5, 2018

The 2018 FIFA World Cup didn’t cease to surprise, as the tournament’s second phase kicked off.

The Round of 16 in the 2018 World Cup produced a number of penalty-kick-inspired shocks, most notably Russia’s upset of Spain, and England edging past Colombia from the spot of all places. Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal both exited the World Cup in normal time at the feet of France and Uruguay, respectively. Belgium nearly fell victim to Japan in what would have been a jaw-dropping loss before ultimately winning on a stirring comeback. Brazil’s win over Mexico probably is the only result from the round that can be considered routine.

NESN.com’s Marc DiBenedetto, Marcus O’Mard and Nicholas Goss to discuss the Round of 16 and preview and predict the quarterfinal matchups — France vs. Uruguay; Brazil vs. Belgium; Russia vs. Croatia and England vs. Sweden — on the latest “NESN Soccer Podcast” episode, which you can listen to here.
