Unlike referees in hockey and football, Major League Baseball umpires don’t wear a microphone.
The mics are helpful during a penalty so fans at home and at the game can hear why a certain call was made. Often times in baseball, it’s self-explanatory why a call was reversed or upheld, but there are always moments when there are questions about why the umpire made a certain call.
