Playoff baseball is right around the corner.
The Boston Red Sox will begin their quest for a World Series title Oct. 5 at Fenway Park against the winner of the Wild Card game between the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees.
While Chris Sale is set to get the ball in Game 1 and David Price likely will pitch Game 2, it’s up in the air who will get the ball for Game 3. If the Red Sox end up facing the Yankees, Game 3 would take place at Yankee Stadium. And one pitcher who’s done well against the Bronx Bombers this season is Nathan Eovaldi.
Since being acquired by the Sox in July, the right-hander has given up five hits, no earned runs and struck out nine over 14 innings of work against the Yankees. Eovaldi is set to take the mound Saturday against New York at Fenway Park, but beyond his final regular-season start, the righty is unsure what’s in store for him in the postseason.
“I haven’t heard anything yet, officially, about what I’ll be doing playoff-wise,” Eovaldi said during an appearance on Sirius XM’s MLB Network Radio. “I (have) the one more start this Saturday. So I’m trying to focus on that one.”
If Eovaldi dominates the Yankees yet against in the middle game this weekend, it could make manager Alex Cora all the more confident to give the ball to the flamethrower in Game 3 of the ALDS.
