BOSTON — For the first time since 1989, the Northeastern Huskies enter the Beanpot as the defending tournament champions.

And they kick things off with a rematch of last year’s final against Boston University.

The Huskies erased a 30-year tournament drought in 2018 with a 5-2 in win over the Terriers at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.

The winner will take on Boston College, 2-1 victors over Harvard in the first semifinal, next Monday back here at TD Garden.

Third period, :16, 1-1: Northeastern gets the kill thanks to a massive stop by Cayden Primeau, who denied a point shot that was deflected in front.

Third period, 2:23, 1-1: Biagio Lerario goes to the box for a blatant late hit. BU on the power play in the closing minutes. The Terriers are 0-for-3 with the man advantage thus far.

Third period, 3:13, 1-1: Nothing going on during the NU power play. Even-strength faceoff coming in Northeastern’s offensive zone after a BU icing.

Third period, 5:17, 1-1: Northeastern going on the power play. Kasper Kotkansalo heading to the box.

Third period, 5:47, 1-1: Neither side budging. Cayden Primeau and Jake Oettinger continued to hold the line at either side.

Third period, 12:00, 1-1: Cayden Primeau smothers a point shot, just the second shot the Terriers have gotten on net in the period, as Northeastern has carried the bulk of the offensive chances. The Huskies have a 39-21 shot lead.

Third period, 13:21, 1-1: BU kills off the penalty thanks to Oettinger, who came up with three point-blank saves on the kill.

Third period, 15:40, 1-1: Northeastern gets its first power play of the night after a Kasper Kotkansalo interference penalty.

Third period, 16:17, 1-1: BU’s Ty Amote rings the far post while charging up the right side. Play is going end-to-end right now.

Third period, 17:16, 1-1: Solid time in the offensive zone for Northeastern as Jake Oettinger comes up with back-to-back saves on Jeremy Davies creeping on the doorstep.

Northeastern leads in shots 24-19.

Second period, 1:42, 1-1: Joel Farabee again sneaks away for another breakaway, but is denied once more by Cayden Primeau with a kick save.

Second period, 3:43, 1-1: About seven players just came crashing into Jake Oettinger, resulting in a massive scrum after the net came off its pegs. Lincoln Griffin and Dante Fabbro go off for matching minors. The intensity officially has picked back up.

Second period, 4:39, 1-1: Joel Farabee is off to the races with a steal at the opposing blue line, but the BU winger is stoned by Cayden Primeau on the break.

Second period, 7:05, 1-1: Not many chances for either side in the last five minutes as defenses are hunkering down. Both goalies have been strong.

Second period, 12:28, 1-1: Blocking a shot at the point in his defensive zone, Pecararo sparked himself on a breakaway up the left board. Darting to the middle, Peceraro couldn’t sneak his shot under the arm of Oettinger. We stay even.

Second period, 13:58, 1-1: The Huskies get a grade-A chance when Liam Peceraro backhands a puck in front for Brandon Hawkins, but Jake Oettinger denies him on the doorstep.

Second period, 15:49, 1-1: The Terriers can’t convert and are 0-for-3 on the power play.

Second period, 18:19, 1-1: BU goes on the power play following a Matt Filipe hooking penalty.

FIRST INTERMISSION, 1-1

First period, :21, 1-1: BU goal! Joel Farabee knocks a rebound into an open net. A Cam Crotty point shot was deflected wide, but Farabee was on the doorstep for the bounce off the board.

First period, 5:30, Northeastern 1-0: Tyler Madden sneaks through the BU defense with nifty dangles, but can’t cap it off as he topples over Oettinger.

First period, 6:48, Northeastern 1-0: A very physical first period thus far, some big hits logged on both sides. Both teams playing with much higher energy than we saw in Game 1.

First period, 10:04, Northeastern 1-0: Jake Oettinger checks in with his two biggest saves so far for BU, two chest stops on Schule and Jordan Harris crashing on the doorstep.

First Period, 12:01, Northeastern 1-0: Cayden Primeau comes up massive on the Huskies penalty kill, stoning a Joel Farabee breakaway chance.

First period, 14:13, Northeastern 1-0: BU will have a 5-on-3 after Biagio Lerario goes to the box after a delay of game for laying on the puck in a net-front scrum. The Terriers put relentless pressure on Cayden Primeau during their first power play.

First period, 16:04, Northeastern 1-0: Huskies go on the penalty kill, as Pecararo is called for a hook.

First period, 16:46, Northeastern 1-0: Northeastern goal! Patrick Schule gets the steal in the defensive zone, feeds to Liam Pecararo, who gives it back to Schule for the tally.

First period, 20:00: Puck drop! Game 2 is underway! Northeastern students have packed the balcony at TD Garden. BU with a solid contingent as well. Should be a good one.
