Red Sox Officially Will Pick No. 4 Overall In 2021 MLB Draft

After weeks of speculation, we finally know when the Red Sox will make their first selection of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.

Boston secured the No. 4 pick after finishing the 2020 season with a 24-36 record.

There had been speculation that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred might change the draft order due to the shortened 2020 regular season, possibly factoring in teams’ 2020 and 2019 records. Instead, the league will proceed as usual, using only the 2020 records.

For weeks, there’s been an expectation in MLB that 2021 draft order would be determined in typical fashion – by reverse order of 2020 standings. That decision is now official. Red Sox will pick at No 4, after Pirates, Rangers, and Tigers.
