It looks like the Boston has found a big man.
Veteran center Tristan Thompson has signed a two-year, $19 million deal with the Celtics, according to The Athletic’s Joe Vardon.
Thompson spent all nine of his seasons in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being drafted as the fourth overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft. He averaged 30.2 minutes, 5.1 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in 51 games with Cleveland last season.
The big man may be just what the doctor ordered for Boston, too. Along with Daniel Theis and Robert Williams, Thompson will round out a very versatile center rotation. He offers services as a good screener and will be strong in the paint on on the glass. And according to ESPN Stats & Info, his rebounding skills are something the Celtics haven’t seen in quite some time.
He also won an NBA title with the Cavaliers in 2016, and likely will offer experienced leadership to a young roster of rising stars.
Overall, we like this move, and are excited to see what comes of it.
