Craig Breslow Shares Significant Update For Red Sox’s Triston Casas

The Boston Red Sox, before any potential additions at the trade deadline, are due to get an impact bat back in their lineup.

Triston Casas has not played since April 20 and embarked on a complicated injury timeline with a rib issue. After recent reports marked that Casas could be out longer, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow provided a rather promising update on Thursday.

“He’s made quite a bit of progress over the last week or so,” Breslow shared on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Thursday. “He’s taking swings of full intensity and taking full batting practice. I think he could find himself in rehab games pretty quickly. As quickly as even the end of this week which is a great turnaround from where we were and the timeline we were talking about a few weeks ago.”

Breslow acknowledged the “sensitive” nature of Casas’ rehab while also sharing about that the Red Sox are “really excited” about progress their first baseman made in recent weeks. That would spark a massive boost for the Red Sox with a powerful bat returning in the middle of a playoff race.

In 22 games, Casas hit .244 with six home runs and an .857 OPS for the Red Sox.
