Bruins training camp began, but Jeremy Swayman did not report Wednesday as the goalie remains a restricted free agent.
Boston general manager Don Sweeney held a news conference to start a new season but confirmed that Swayman and the team remain at the negotiating table.
"...I'm disappointed, but at the end of the day, I'm optimistic because I think we'll find the landing spot before Dec. 1," Sweeney told reporters, as seen on NESN.
Restricted free agents have until Dec. 1 to sign contracts that will be valid for the season. There have been optimistic signs that a deal could arrive starting with the sides not entering arbitration. Swayman was present at captains' practice this month, and the sides hope to find "common ground" before Dec. 1.

"I'll continue to work every day," Sweeney said. "It's not unlike Charlie McAvoy, David Pastrnak and Brandon Carlo. And they've been longtime Boston Bruins. It's a process that seemingly every year it's a few players, and this is the year we have one. But have to continue doing my job. I have to respect the position that Jeremy and his camp has taken and continue to find common ground."
Sweeney denied reports about a lack of communication between the Bruins and Swayman and said they are in constant discussions.
