Hurricane Milton Does Significant Damage To Rays’ Tropicana Field

Tropicana Field will need considerable repairs after finding itself in the warpath of Hurricane Milton.

The tropical cyclone made landfall as a “dangerous Category 3 storm” Wednesday night near Florida’s Central West Coast, according to CBS News. Among the latest victims of the powerful storm was the home of the Tampa Bay Rays, where the fabric roof of the ballpark was completely ripped off and torn to shreds.

According to The Associated Press, it was not immediately clear if there was additional damage to Tropicana Field inside the park in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Milton reportedly was downgraded to a Category 2 storm shortly after making landfall Wednesday night, but an extensive toll had already been taken on the region. According to the AP, over two million homes and businesses in Florida were without power as of Wednesday evening and roughly 125 houses were destroyed.

The Rays are slated to play at least three more seasons at Tropicana Field. The franchise plans to start building a new stadium in St. Petersburg early next year, with the goal of having the ballpark ready for Opening Day 2028.
