Enjoyable days will be tough to come by for Patriots fans this season, but New England supporters probably found some satisfaction Tuesday.
The Patriots watched their fiercest rival deliver a drastic response to struggles barely over a quarter into the 2024 campaign. After dropping to 2-3 with a Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the New York Jets reportedly fired head coach Robert Saleh. It marked the first time Gang Green made an in-season change at the top of the coaching totem pole since 1976.
Seeing Woody Johnson can his coach probably was enough to tickle the Foxboro Faithful. But the reported details of the decision likely took the entertainment value to a new level.
“Sources: Robert Saleh came into the building today business as usual,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted to X. “The decision of him getting fired was a surprise and it came directly from ownership. Defensive players in the building are shocked by it.”
Time will tell if Aaron Rodgers and the Jets will be recharged by new leadership later this month when the Patriots host their division foe for a Week 8 clash.

Of course, Patriots fans have their own coaching situation to worry about. Jerod Mayo and his staff arguably were the biggest reason why New England fell to the depleted Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, which extended its losing streak to four.
