Barmore claimed the Providence police officers acted racist during the stop
New England Patriots defensive star Christian Barmore revealed on social media he was stopped for a traffic violation, and a police report detailed what happened early Wednesday morning in Providence.
Barmore posted on social media an alleged racist incident that occurred with Providence police. A report from the Providence Police Department revealed Barmore’s unregistered Jeep was pulled over at 12:53 a.m. ET, per WPRO’s Kevin McNamara. Barmore was cited for driving with an expired registration and plate cover violations. The Jeep was towed, and Barmore left the scene in another vehicle. The registration expired last week.
The Providence Police Department alleged Barmore “had an attitude toward police and handed over paperwork in an ‘aggressive manner,'” per WPRO. Police chief Oscar Perez claimed the officers “full compliance with department protocols and state regulations.”
There have been multiple lawsuits and alleged allegations against the Providence Police Department in recent years, including by former officers alleging racial abuse. Perez encouraged Barmore to speak to Providence police to address any questions or concerns.
Head coach Jerod Mayo told reporters in his Wednesday news conference the Patriots were aware of the incident and spoke to Barmore about it. There weren’t any other details given by the team.
