Red Sox Could Face Problem In Rays Matchup Next Season

The Boston Red Sox are scheduled to face the Rays in Tampa Bay in the first month of the season, but the logistics might be tough to figure out.

Hurricane Milton ravaged Florida last week causing at least 14 deaths and leaving millions without power and resources. One of the notable effects for sports fans was the destruction of the Tropicana Field roof. The Rays didn’t confirm it, but it seems like a certainty they won’t be playing at the Trop to start the 2025 MLB season, per the Tampa Bay Times.

That puts their Opening Day and their April matchups against the Red Sox up in the air. There will be a lot of debate over the next few weeks and months about where the Rays will play until the roof of Tropicana Field is fixed. The American League East side isn’t scheduled to play in their new stadium at an adjacent site in 2028, so it’s also unknown what changes to Tropicana Field would be made.

There is a vacancy at Oakland Coliseum, so Boston could take on the “Oakland Rays” to start the 2025 season.
