BOSTON — Jack Edwards was celebrated by the Boston Bruins and NESN before puck drop for the Black and Gold’s matchup with the Seattle Kraken at TD Garden.
Throughout his 19-year career as the voice of the Bruins, Edwards had many iconic calls including “The Bruins showing hearts of lions,” “Summertime is coming to Philly,” and the infamous game-winning overtime call from Boston’s first-round victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the 2013 postseason: “With the point of the dagger at their throats, they rip it out of Toronto’s hands and kill the beast,” and many more.
Which one was Edwards’ personal favorite?
“This building is vibrating” from the 2008 Game 6 against the Montreal Canadiens.
“That was an intentional tribute to Bob Wilson, who exclaimed after Jean Ratelle’s goal against Montreal in overtime, ‘This building is moving,'” Edwards said. “I called him the next day and said, ‘Did you hear that? He said he did. … He was my model for play-by-play during my UNH days.”

Over the years, Edwards has also coined many phrases, such as “Two Us, two Ks, two points,” “Tumbling muffin,” and “Juicy rebounds.” One phrase in particular not only stuck with the fans but also spilled over during public appearances — “Chinese mustard.”
“One year, I was doing an autograph session this summer, and one woman showed up with a jar of Chinese mustard,” Edwards explained. “It blew my mind because I stole that line from Jim Bouton in ‘Ball Four.’ Gary Bell was talking to him and said, ‘Let me get this straight, … if I just brush him back and put three fastballs on the outside corner with Chinese mustard on them, they’ll be alright.'”
Edwards admitted he signed the jar of mustard for the fan.
