The stakes of landing Juan Soto aren’t lost on Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas.
Casas has a great affinity for Soto’s immense skill set in the batter’s box and understands the gigantic impact the 26-year-old outfielder can have on a lineup. And with that, Casas believes he could radically change the fortunes of any team he signs with.
“He’s a game-changing type of bat in the middle of the order,” Casas told NESN’s Tom Caron on Saturday night. “I thought whoever signs him is a World Series favorite, in my opinion. He changes the dynamic of a lineup. His presence is felt not just on the field, but all over the league. The example that he sets in the box is something that all hitters strive for and that’s complete dominance of the zone.”
Casas surely didn’t mince words when it came to the impact Soto can have on a franchise. So, would it be World Series or bust for the Red Sox if they end up signing Soto?
“Wholeheartedly, for however many years that he signs with whatever team, they have that type of potential,” Casas said. “He did it with the Nationals. He went to the World Series with them. He goes to San Diego, he takes them to the playoffs. He takes the Yankees to the World Series. I think he’s that caliber of player.”

That’s a ton of pressure to put on the shoulders of Soto, but that’s what can be expected with reports suggesting he could sign a contract worth over $700 million.
It’s widely assumed that Soto will make his highly anticipated free agent decision in the coming days and no later than when the MLB Winter Meetings conclude next Thursday. MassLive’s Sean McAdam reported Saturday that the Red Sox are still in the race for Soto and there’s the possibility of him revealing his next team Sunday.
If it’s the Red Sox, that should come to the delight of Casas, but also bring a ton of pressure.
