Scott Peters won’t be returning to the Patriots coaching staff.
The Cincinnati Bengals on Monday announced the hiring of Peters as their offensive line coach. Peters, who will bring assistant Michael McCarthy with him, spent one season as New England’s offensive line coach.
“It’s my favorite division in all the NFL with the competitive nature and the rivalries,” Peters said regarding the AFC North, per the Bengals release. “I’m excited to be here in Cincinnati and doing it again from a different perspective.”
Peters was thought to be an impactful hire for the Patriots given his ties to offensive line guru Bill Callahan. However, Peters was thrust into a difficult situation as New England’s offensive line was made up struggling younger players and waiver wire additions.
It ultimately led to the Patriots having one of the worst offensive line groups in the league.

Peters won’t be the only offensive assistant not returning to New England. Tight ends coach Bob Bicknell, running backs coach Taylor Embree, wide receivers coach Tyler Hughes, assistant wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood and coaching assistant Keith Jones Jr. also will be moving on, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
