Former Boston Bruins forward Taylor Hall is on the move again.

The 2018 Hart Trophy winner spent parts of three seasons with the Bruins before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks with Nick Foligno following Boston’s historic 2022-23 season.

Six weeks before the March 7 trade deadline, the Carolina Hurricanes acquired pending unrestricted free agents Hall and Mikko Rantanen from the Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche, the teams announced.

In exchange for Rantanen, the Avalanche are receiving Martin Necas, Jack Drury, and draft picks from the Hurricanes (a 2025 second-rounder and a 2026 fourth-rounder). In the deal for Hall, the Blackhawks will get a 2025 third-round pick from Carolina.

Coming off surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that caused him to miss all but 10 games in 2023-24, Hall has not been as productive this season as he has throughout his career. He has just nine goals and 15 assists in 46 games for Chicago.

Rantanen is on pace for his third straight 100-point season, with 25 goals and 39 assists in 49 games. Necas has lit the lamp 16 times and notched 39 helpers in 49 games for the Canes, and Drury has nine points across 39 games for Carolina.

The blockbuster trade will surely affect the Bruins’ game against the Avs on Saturday. When the trade was announced on Friday night, Rantanen was already in Boston. While Rantanen is headed to Carolina, it’s unknown if Necas and Drury will make it to TD Garden in time for the 1 p.m. ET puck drop.
