Mike Vrabel will explore all options with his coordinators for the New England Patriots, except for one from the NFC North.
Josh McCown doesn’t have a connection to Vrabel, but he does have one with Drake Maye. The Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach was on the rookie quarterback’s high school football team staff when his sons were on the same team as Maye.
McCown could have been an option for the Patriots to explore, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter quickly shot down the idea in his appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Friday. The NFL insider stated that McCown would stay in Minnesota unless he was offered a head coaching job; the New York Jets reportedly interviewed the 2002 third-round pick for their vacant head coaching position.
Josh McDaniels has been heavily linked to the Patriots even before Vrabel was officially hired by New England. Schefter noted that the new Patriots head coach likely will conduct a thorough search for an offensive coordinator before deciding if McDaniels is the right man for the job.
Vrabel has plenty of connections around the NFL, so he won’t have a shortage of options for offensive and defensive coordinators.
