BOSTON — If the Boston Bruins were ever in need of two points, it was in Monday’s matinee matchup against the San Jose Sharks.

Thankfully for the Black and Gold, that’s exactly what they earned as a four-goal third period lifted Boston to a 6-3 victory at TD Garden.

Charlie Coyle was the hero for the B’s as he scored two goals in the third period, which helped Boston outlast San Jose in a back-and-forth game. Boston improved to 23-19-6 on the season.

Vinni Lettieri scored his second goal of the season to open the scoring at 9:21 of the first period. Unfortunately for the Black and Gold, the Sharks would get the equalizer on Barclay Goodrow’s fourth tally of the season. The two clubs traded tallies in the middle frame with a power-play goal from David Pastrnak for his 22nd and former Boston College Eagle Will Smith’s seventh.

The Sharks took a 3-2 lead after the Bruins failed to score on their second power play opportunity of the game. Although Boston kept possession in the offensive zone for the entire two-minute man advantage and peppered San Jose goalie Yaroslav Askarov with five shots, the Bruins couldn’t put one in the back of the net. Fabian Zetterlund potted the go-ahead goal for the Sharks.
