Damien Woody couldn’t be higher on Jayden Daniels.
It’s admittedly tough not to be enamored by the rookie quarterback, who has the Commanders one win away from their first Super Bowl appearance since the 1991 campaign. After an outstanding debut regular season, Daniels’ legend grew substantially with impressive playoff performances in Tampa Bay and Detroit.
How good was the 2024 No. 2 overall pick in those upset Washington wins? Well, Woody on Monday labeled Daniels as “the best quarterback in these playoffs right now.” Mind you, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and MVP candidate Josh Allen all still have their respective teams in contention for the Lombardi Trophy.
The former New England Patriots offensive lineman eventually added a touch of clarity to his take by arguing Daniels is currently playing better than any of his QB counterparts. But that’s still a bold stance considering how brilliantly Allen played in wins over the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens and how savvy Mahomes was against the Houston Texans this past Saturday.
Regardless, the fact that Daniels was able to even create such a debate was a remarkable feat in itself. Washington is having a dream first season with Daniels behind center, and the run should encourage Patriots fans who are emotionally invested in their own young signal-caller.
