The Red Sox still haven’t acquired that right-handed bat that everyone is looking for.

Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado will continue to be floated as high-profile options, with each being linked to the club at several different points in the offseason. Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has been honest about his desire for right-handed pop, but if those two options continue to be out of his price range, he could pivot toward the market’s best available switch hitter.

Boston is among several teams that “have been linked” to Anthony Santander, according to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez. The Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels were also mentioned, and Gonzalez said interest was varied among the clubs.

Santander, 30, is coming off another prolific power-hitting season, belting 44 home runs while slashing .235/.308/.506. Fenway Park has always been a favorite hitting destination of his, as well, as he has 10 home runs in 39 career games at America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.

The Red Sox would surely be open to obtaining his services, as he provides versatility in the fact that he can play the outfield or be a designated hitter from both sides of the plate. Santander is also one of several veterans “likely” open to a short-term deal, according to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, which could accelerate things with Boston.
