The Red Sox did something notable Wednesday.
Alex Bregman reportedly agreed to a three-year, $120 million contract to join Boston, bringing an end to the months-long sweepstakes that included competition with the Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs.
The Red Sox included a few sweeteners to get things done and land their guy, which led to a change that fans will love to see.
FanGraphs updated their playoff odds predictor just after the news was reported, with the Red Sox moving from 45.3% to 53.8% — the most significant increase they’ve seen since trading for starting pitcher Garrett Crochet. Boston jumped ahead of Houston (53.5%), Detroit (44.7%) and the Baltimore Orioles (44.6%) with the update.
Bregman slashed .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs in 145 games for Houston in 2024. The Green Monster should help improve those numbers.

Boston hasn’t made the playoffs since advancing to the 2021 American League Championship Series, which coincidentally involved the 30-year-old.
What do you think, Red Sox fans? Is Boston bound for another run into October?
