Red Sop pitchers and catchers reported to spring training this week, and it was a time for the players to get into baseball shape.
Boston’s reported Alex Bregman signing was the talk of the week in Fort Myers, Fla., but other new and returning players are preparing for the season. Manager Alex Cora revealed Friday one breakout star from last season who is “behind” in his program.
“Actually, Kutter (Crawford) is a little bit behind. He has some patellar tendon soreness that he’s been dealing with in the offseason,” Cora told reporters, as seen on NESN. “He’s behind in his throwing program. I don’t know what that means a month from now or a month and a half from now. But right now, he’s behind everybody else. … He’s throwing bullpens and all that but not with the intensity of the other guys. We have to make sure this feels good so this doesn’t suffer. We’re gonna take it slow with him.”
Cora noted that Crawford lives in Florida and was able to get the necessary work done in a timely manner. He also revealed another pitcher who dealt with an injury ailment this week.
“(Brayan) Bello was shut down early in the week. He’s getting back to the throwing program Sunday or Monday. A little shoulder soreness but nothing to be alarmed.”

While the early ailments might not be anything to worry about, it was why the Red Sox went out and traded for Garrett Crochet and signed pitchers like Walker Buehler. Depth is important and it will help keep Boston at ease and allow players like Crawford and Bello to take their time in their respective recoveries.
Thee Red Sox will hold full team workouts next week and play their first spring training game next Friday when they take on Northeastern University.
