The 72nd Dunkin’ Beanpot championship game, which will take place Monday, will feature the Battle of Comm., Ave. for the first time since 2016.
The Eagles defeated the Terriers 1-0 in overtime nearly a decade ago. Despite falling short of the title, BU’s Sean Maguire won both the tournament MVP award and the Eberly Award for having the best save percentage across two games.
“You could not write a better championship game matchup,” George Balekji said on NESN’s “The Hockey Hub” podcast on Thursday. “This is what everyone objectively wanted to see.
“… You have BC, who’s the best team in the country. You have BU, who’s been in the top 10, top five in the nation all year long. They’re playing their best hockey, and you have all these first-rounders and NHL draft picks and prospects all over the ice. Both teams can score a ton, play up-tempo, play really fast, but also are skilled and fast on the blue line as well.”
To hear more of Balekji’s conversation with Adam Pellerin about the championship game from “The Hockey Hub,” you can listen to the podcast on YouTube or Spotify.
