Trevor Story was in an odd spot this offseason, but it was all to the benefit of the Boston Red Sox.

Story was vocal about wanting former Colorado Rockies teammate Nolan Arenado in Boston. That pitch came amid the Red Sox’s pursuit of Alex Bregman, who officially signed with Boston on Saturday. Story revealed he also recruited the two-time World Series champion, who he became friends with years ago. It was an interesting situation that the Red Sox shortstop didn’t stress.

“Like you said, there was nothing I could do to control it. You can talk about things, whatever,” Story told reporters, as seen on NESN. “It’s not my job to make those decisions. Either way, we would have been in a good position. Two good players. Pumped we added a righty bat and a good defender.”

Story got work in with his likely middle infield partner Saturday. Bregman likely will speak more on teaming up with Story in his news conference Sunday which is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. ET on NESN.
