The Red Sox sent three players to the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, and ESPN believes Boston will feature nearly the same contingent at this year’s Midsummer Classic.

MLB writer David Schoenfield anticipates Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran once again receiving a destination as two of the best players in the American League. However, Schoenfield believes Duran will receive All-Star starter status this year, unlike in 2024 when he earned All-Star Game MVP honors as an outfield reserve.

“Duran being here is confirmation that I’m buying his 2024 season: .285, 83 extra-base hits, 8.7 WAR,” Schoenfield wrote. “OK, maybe not that 8.7 WAR, but the all-around game was impressive, from his bat-to-ball metrics to his defense to his top-of-the-line speed. His swing decisions were much improved as he jumped from the ninth percentile in barrel rate to the 87th, which helps explain all those extra-base hits.”

Devers and Duran received All-Star nods alongside Tanner Houck last year. Schoenfield doesn’t see Houck returning to the star-studded spectacle, but he believes Garrett Crochet will make the trip to Atlanta in his first season with Boston.

Of course, Schoenfield was simply making projections, and it’s easy to envision a scenario where the Red Sox have a greater representation on July 15. Few likely would be surprised if newcomer Alex Bregman earns his third career All-Star selection in Year 1 with Boston.
