Yoan Moncada came to professional baseball as an intriguing young talent in the Boston Red Sox farm system.
He then became a leading prospect return for the Chicago White Sox when they shipped ace Chris Sale to the Red Sox prior to the 2017 season, eight years before the teams linked up on another blockbuster deal for a top lefty. Moncada and starter Michael Kopech, who emerged with the Dodgers during the 2024 World Series, jumped to the American League Central in that deal.
Moncada went on to put together nine seasons as a serviceable major leaguer with a career .756 OPS for the White Sox. Now, he prepares to join his third MLB franchise on a reported one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels, per the New York Post’s Jon Heyman. The former Red Sox prospect now has experience in all three AL divisions.
The Angels made the move looking for talent after finishing last in Baseball America’s updated farm system rankings.
