In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Lakers and the Mavericks reportedly agreed to one of the most stunning trades in NBA history.
Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis, two of the league’s very best players, are on the move, according to multiple reports. Los Angeles is set to acquire Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris from Dallas in exchange for Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick.
The Jazz reportedly also entered the fray to complete a three-team trade. Utah, according to ESPN’s Shams Charnia, will land Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2025 Los Angeles Clippers second-round pick and a 2025 Mavericks second-round pick.
Of course, Doncic and Davis were the hallmarks of this reported stunning swap. According to Charania, Mark Cuban’s side recently approached the Purple and Gold and offered Doncic, who was selected to the All-NBA First Team in five of his first six seasons. The 25-year-old is under contract through the 2025-26 season and has a player option for the 2026-27 campaign.
Davis, meanwhile, will leave Tinseltown the same way he arrived: via blockbuster trade. The Lakers acquired the star big man from the New Orleans Pelicans in July 2019 in exchange for a massive haul of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks. Davis immediately rewarded LA by helping it win the NBA title in the 2019-20 season.
