Marcus Smart is on the move again.

Smart, traded by the Boston Celtics to the Memphis Grizzlies in the three-team Kristaps Porzingis deal, reportedly was dealt in the lead-up to Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Grizzlies traded Smart and a 2025 first-round pick to the Washington Wizards in a multi-team deal that sent a pair of second-rounders to Memphis.

The motivation for the Grizzlies to make the Smart trade was to “create roster flexibility,” per Charania. The veteran guard hasn’t been much of a factor this season for Memphis, where he averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game over 19 contests. Injuries also limited Smart to just 20 games in his first season with the Grizzlies.

Smart wasn’t the only former Celtic traded before the deadline, which marked the end of one of the most seismic stretches of transactions in league history. Dennis Schroder, Kelly Olynyk and Daniel Theis also found new homes, while Boston parted ways with Jaden Springer in order to shed salary.
