Alex Bregman experienced some wild atmospheres over the course of his baseball career.
But whatever LSU’s Alex Box Stadium and the Houston Astros’ Minute Maid Park provided, Fenway Park found a way to top it even though Bregman has yet to call the ballpark home.
Bregman is very excited to play regularly at Fenway after signing a three-year, $120 million deal with the Red Sox and one play in particular left a mark on the veteran infielder.
“I think it’s going to be awesome,” Bregman told reporters during his introductory press conference Sunday morning in Fort Myers, Fla., as seen on NESN. “I think the craziest moment at Fenway was when (Rafael) Devers hit an inside-the-parker in 2017 against us in the playoffs. I’ve never seen a crowd that crazy in my life. It was almost like, ‘Oh wow, I don’t know if we’re going to win this game anymore. They’re going nuts.'”
Devers’ unique blast, which caromed off the Green Monster, certainly brought the home crowd out of its seats. Devers touched them all to start the bottom of the ninth inning with the Red Sox trailed by two runs in Game 4 of their American League Division Series against the Astros.

And even though Bregman thought the game might be in jeopardy with the shot in the arm Devers provided the Red Sox, Astros closer Ken Giles retired the next three batters he faced to secure the win and the series for Houston.
But Bregman sure remembers the roar of the crowd when Devers hustled his way around the bases. Bregman knows that’s not unique to Fenway and he’s ready to have the crowd help fuel him now that he will be in a Red Sox uniform.
“I think every time we go there, there’s just an energy,” Bregman said. “Whether it’s a Monday or a Sunday, it’s a great atmosphere.”
