The Red Sox really wanted Alex Bregman, and they pulled out all the stops to sign him.

Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, revealed Boston employed a very aggressive approach to recruiting the two-time World Series champion. The Red Sox’s ownership group was very transparent with Boras about how they saw Bregman fitting into the equation, and franchise Hall of Famer Dustin Pedroia pitched the two-time All-Star on the perks of playing in Boston.

Asked if there was any other significant correspondence with a past or current Red Sox player during his free-agent process, Bregman delivered a cheeky response.

“Yeah, from a (former) player — Craig Breslow. The last call,” Bregman joked with reporters, as seen on NESN.com.

The finishing touches on negotiations sealed a win-win for both sides. The Red Sox signed Bregman without issuing a very long-term deal, and the 30-year-old fetched a substantially improved annual salary with options to hit free agency again in the coming years if he felt so inclined.

But Bregman’s future in Boston isn’t something anyone has to worry about at this juncture. For now, the star infielder and his new team are focused on winning in 2025.
