The 2025 Red Sox starting nine is starting to take shape.
Speaking with the media Wednesday, Alex Cora acknowledged he was “close” to determining an everyday batting order for his ballclub. However, Boston’s manager was willing to offer up a majority of it weeks ahead of Opening Day, including Alex Bregman’s placement.
“Everybody’s going to talk about protecting Raffy (Devers), splitting up the lefties and all that,” Cora told reporters, as seen on NESN. “If I can say the top three right now, it most likely would go Jarren (Duran), Raffy, Alex (Bregman), in that order.”
Cora went on to explain he likes Bregman in the three-hole since he would split up Devers and Triston Casas, who’s expected to be the Red Sox’s cleanup hitter. Boston’s skipper also noted that “as of now,” Trevor Story is poised to hit fifth in the order.
As for where all of those players will play, Bregman appears in line to kick off the season at third base while Devers continues to improve the status of his sore shoulders. Thus, the three-time All-Star likely will be the Red Sox’s designated hitter until he’s ready to play the field regularly.
