Boston Bruins legend Brad Marchand is known not only for his pesky play on the ice, but also for his hilarious personality.
That personality was on full display when he lent his acting talents to Samuel Adams in an Instagram promotional video for a collaboration between the former Bruins captain and the Boston-based Pilsner company. In the post, Sam Adams announced the partnership with Marchand for a limited-edition beer.
“Brad Marchand will forever be a Boston legend, and legends deserve legendary beer. So, we made some,” the Sam Adams post read. “Samuel Adams Marchand(y) drops 3/30 at the Boston Brewery and Downtown Boston Taproom – because greatness deserves to be toasted properly. Cheers!”
The video shows Marchand beating a bag of grain, correcting the pronunciation of his last name and hitting a brewery tank with his hockey stick.
The Marchand(y) label features a caricature drawing of the 2011 Stanley Cup champion in the staple Black and Gold Bruins colors.

“Brad Marchand truly embodies the heart of Boston sports — grittiness, skills, and always showing up when it counts,” Samuel Adams head of brand Lauren Price said, per Boston 25 News’ Keenan Bassma. “His blend of elite performance, passion, and relentless drive to perfect his craft makes him a natural fit for Samuel Adams. He’s built a lasting legacy here in Boston, and we’re proud to partner with Brad, who represents the spirit of our city so well. Boston will miss him!”
Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers at the NHL trade deadline. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney admitted talks between the historic franchise and Marchand’s camp broke down, which led to Boston’s tough decision to move on from the 36-year-old left wing.
“Being the captain of the Boston Bruins was the greatest honor of my life, and I am proud to team up with Samuel Adams on the Marchand(y) as a tribute to my time in this city,” Marchand said, per Bassma. “I will always be a Bostonian at heart, and I hope that fans will enjoy this beer to celebrate the 16 unforgettable years I spent wearing this jersey.”
The brew will be released on March 30, and the Samuel Adams Downtown Boston Taproom and Boston Brewery will carry it exclusively on draft and in limited-edition cans, according to Bassma.
