The New England Patriots could have a fascinating decision to make next week with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

New England revamped the defense in free agency and got the offense a real pass-catcher in Stefon Diggs. The Patriots now have another chance to add real talent in the draft, though another avenue could take them to a splash.

Host Nick “Fitzy” Stevens shared on the “WEEI Afternoons” show Friday he received a call from a source that the Philadelphia Eagles could present a trade for the No. 4 overall pick to draft Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with star wideout A.J. Brown and potential draft compensation going to the Patriots in the reported scenario.

“I got a call earlier today that the Philadelphia Eagles really, really, really want Abdul Carter and that they would consider, rather, are planning to call your New England Patriots on draft day, if Carter falls to No. 4, to see if Mike Vrabel would like a reunion with A.J. Brown and possibly more draft selections and compensation to come,” Stevens said Friday.

That would be another major addition for Drake Maye. Rumors connecting Brown to the Patriots, now with his former Tennessee Titans head coach in Vrabel, already swirled earlier in the offseason and now resurface from Stevens’ comments. It’s important to remember the other trade for Brown also came on draft day in 2022 when the Titans dealt the talented wide receiver for the Eagles.

So much depends on what happens in front of the Patriots next week, which could decide whether they actually make that pick or trade it.
