Red Sox starting pitcher Richard Fitts is headed to the injured list after he exited Saturday’s game against the White Sox.
The right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right pectoral strain, the team announced Sunday afternoon before its series finale in Chicago.
The Red Sox selected right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer from Triple-A Worcester to fill his roster spot. Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 40.
Fitts pitched five scoreless innings against the White Sox on Saturday before he exited due to what Alex Cora referred to as a shoulder pain. Fitts owns a 3.18 ERA in three starts (17 innings) this season.
