The Red Sox are back in action Tuesday, but the discussion around Jarren Duran’s incident with a fan remained an important talking point in MLB.

Duran openly is an advocate for mental health, but a fan tried to exploit that last Sunday. The fan was ejected for making an unacceptable remark at the All-Star outfielder, who opened up about his 2022 suicide attempt in Boston’s new Netflix docuseries.

The Cleveland Guardians released a statement after the game condemning the remark and promising action against the fan. The response received praise from MLB fans and manager Alex Cora.

“Jarren’s doing good, man. He’s got a support system,” Cora said on “MLB Network Radio” on SiriusXM on Tuesday. ” … One guy doesn’t represent the city of Cleveland or the organization. Security did an outstanding job right away. Chris (Antonetti) and Stephen (Vogt), they contacted us right away, and that fan is never gonna set foot on Progressive Field. I applaud the Guardians because that’s who they are. They’re amazing. What they do is amazing. The situation is the situation. Hopefully, it’s the last one.”

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge also weighed in on the situation, which served as a reminder that athletes are people, too, and should be treated as such. Cora reiterated that Duran’s openness in the Netflix docuseries extended beyond baseball and helped a lot of people.
