The Wally mascot head came out twice Tuesday night at Fenway Park, as the two runs the Red Sox scored in their shutout win over the Mets came by way of the longball.

However, that wasn’t the only prop Boston used in its second straight victory over New York.

The Red Sox, specifically Tanner Houck, used the cover for the dugout bullpen phone to celebrate the excellent collective performance by the club’s relievers. The cover was dislodged by manager Alex Cora, who smacked it off in frustration after both he and starter Walker Buehler were ejected with one out in the third inning.

Boston didn’t do away with the phone cover after the game, and as Brennan Bernardino revealed after the club improved to .500, it might become a staple in the dugout.

“It made it into the clubhouse after the game,” Bernandino told WEEI. “It might be a new celebratory thing.”

The Red Sox were able to use their new celebration early and often Tuesday night. Bernardino was the first of six relievers used by Boston in the middle game against New York, and that group limited a very talented lineup to only four hits.

Time will tell if the bullpen phone cover makes an appearance in Wednesday night’s finale. But with ace Garrett Crochet on the hill, the Red Sox might not need to utilize their relievers very often.
