Walker Buehler and Alex Cora were back with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, but they didn’t last long against the New York Mets.

Buehler and Cora were both ejected in the top of the third inning by home plate umpire Mike Estabrook for arguing a pitch that was ruled a ball.

Buehler questioned Estabrook’s ruling of the pitch after Francisco Lindor stole second. The pitch from the veteran right-hander caught plenty of the plate against Juan Soto, but Estabrook didn’t see it that way. Buehler had words for Estabrook, who seemed to warn the Red Sox starting pitcher a couple of times before eventually tossing him.

Cora charged out of the dugout with Buehler’s emotions running high and got into a face-to-face confrontation with Estabrook. The two jawed for a little bit before Estabrook gave the hook to Cora.

It was the first ejection for Buehler since 2021 and the 18th time Cora got tossed in his managerial career.

It was the first start for Buehler after coming off the injured list due to shoulder bursitis. He looked pretty sharp early on, allowing no hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Cora was back in the dugout Tuesday after missing Monday’s contest to attend his daughter’s graduation from Boston College. Red Sox bench Ramón Vázquez took over for a second straight game with Cora ejected.
